At the end of the test, SELF displays your overall target level: ‘En route vers...’. This is the level group into which SELF suggests you enrol and corresponds to the level you are currently acquiring.
SELF also gives your acquired level by skill, i.e. a score for listening comprehension, a score for reading comprehension and a score for short written expression.

What do these levels represent?
Level A1
A1 corresponds to a beginner user level (introductory or discovery level). This means you have the following abilities:
Understand and use familiar and everyday expressions and very simple statements aimed at meeting concrete needs
Introduce yourself or introduce someone else
Ask someone questions about themselves and answer similar types of questions
Communicate in a simple way if the interlocutor speaks slowly and clearly and is cooperative
Level A2
A2 corresponds to a beginner user level (intermediate or basic level). This means you have the following abilities:
Understand isolated sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of daily life (e.g., basic personal and family information, shopping, work)
Communicate during simple and routine tasks that require only a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine topics
Describe using simple means your education, immediate environment, and topics corresponding to immediate needs
Level B1
B1 corresponds to an independent user level (threshold level). This means you have the following abilities:
Understand the main points of a discussion when clear and standard language is used, and the topic is familiar, such as work, school, leisure, etc.
Be autonomous in most situations encountered while traveling in a region where the target language is spoken
Produce simple and coherent discourse on familiar topics and areas of interest
Narrate an event, experience, or dream, describe a hope or goal, and briefly explain reasons or provide explanations for a project or idea
Level B2
B2 corresponds to an independent user level (advanced or independent level). This means you have the following abilities:
Understand the essential content of concrete or abstract topics in a complex text, including technical discussions in your field
Communicate spontaneously and fluently with a native speaker
Express yourself clearly and in detail on a wide range of topics, state an opinion on a current topic, and explain the advantages and disadvantages of different options
Level C1
C1 corresponds to a proficient user level (autonomous level). This means you have the following abilities:
Understand demanding, long texts and grasp implicit meanings
Express yourself spontaneously and fluently without much apparent effort to find the right words
Use the language effectively and flexibly in social, professional, or academic settings
Express yourself on complex topics clearly and well-structured, showing control over organizational, articulatory, and cohesive linguistic tools
Level C2
C2 corresponds to a proficient user level (mastery level). This means you have the following abilities:
Understand virtually everything read or heard with ease
Summarize information from various spoken and written sources coherently
Express yourself spontaneously, very fluently, and precisely, distinguishing finer shades of meaning even in complex situations
