Can I test SELF?
Yes, you can request access to a Demo session directly to our generic e-mail.
What does the test assess?
The test assesses 3 skills: listening comprehension, reading comprehension and short written expression.
Which levels can be assessed?
The overall SELF exit levels are:
English: “En route vers A1” up to “En route vers C2.
Italian: “En route vers A1” up to “En route vers C1.
Spanish: “En route vers A1” up to “En route vers C1.
FLE: “En route vers A1” up to “En route vers B2.2/C1.
Japanese: “En route vers A1” up to “En route vers C1.1 or higher”.
Mandarin: “En route vers A1” up to “En route vers B1.2 or higher”.
How do you interpret the levels?
At the end of the test, SELF immediately displays a global target level (in progress): “En route vers...”. This is the level group in which SELF suggests the learner enrol, and corresponds to the level immediately above the level acquired.
SELF also gives the level acquired by skill, i.e. a score for listening comprehension, a score for reading comprehension and a score for short written expression.
How do I access the results?
A summary table of all the results for each session is available. This table contains the list of students who have taken the test, their profile information (email, institution, stream, year, any student number, reference languages, etc.), the test start date and time, the duration of the test, the target level and the scores per skill. Depending on the scenario chosen, we can send you the test at a time that suits you (by default at the end of the session). If you wish, you can also consult/download the results at any time from your account (the administrator must give you access rights to your sessions).
What equipment do I need?
SELF can be run remotely, in total autonomy. Please use a computer rather than a tablet/smartphone, and prefer the Chrome, Firefox or Safari browsers. Mandarin and Japanese require the ability to write in the languages in question (see the “help” tab on the SELF platform).
Site crash
SELF memorizes the student's position in the test; if the student is disconnected for any reason, the test resumes where it left off when the student reconnects to the session. Questions already answered cannot be replayed (if necessary, contact the administrator).
SELF German, when is it available?
The German SELF test is currently being designed, with official deployment scheduled for the start of the 2025 school year. If you would like to take part in the piloting phases, please do not hesitate to contact us!
